He once locked himself up in a mock jail attached to a 20-pound ball and chain to raise $50,000 or more for charity. He also starred in television a commercial to promote B.C.’s Tailgate Toolkit which connects workers to substance use recovery resources.
Best career advice
Take the time to sit down and look at it as a career and not just a job. Where do you see yourself in 5 years, 10 years, 15 years etc. It will help you stay committed to your path during the hard stuff. Many of the trades get tougher if you haven't found your way into a leadership role after 15 or 20 years. Also, understand you are learning a craft and never stop being proud of it.

Trevor Botkin 2026 Finalist

Founder at MusterPoint

MusterPoint

Trevor won’t stop trying to save the lives of men and women in the trades. His strongest weapon isn’t his muscles built during decades of carpentry work. It is radical transparency about his own struggles with mental health and substance use while working as a tradesperson. In his role as founder of MusterPoint Canada, Trevor is helping shape programs that don’t just look good on paper, but actually have an impact. Colleagues say Trevor is fearless. While working with a renovation charity he would design fundraisers where he would dress up in costumes, lock himself in cages and more to get on the news and fund renovations. At MusterPoint, his unique perspective is helping create a cutting-edge program to help other tradespeople. This peer-support model is new for the construction sector and could spawn a new approach that saves lives and improves the health of the entire industry.

What voters said

"Trevor leads with his heart and infuses passion onto everything he does. His lived experience is something he does not shy away from sharing and it only makes him an even more impactful leader."
