Darren Sauer 2026 Finalist

Director Of Development at Wales McLelland Construction

Wales McLelland Construction

Darren Sauer brings a developer’s mindset to the contractor side of the table. A seasoned real estate and construction professional responsible for millions of square feet of development, he understands both the investment drivers and the realities of building. His most significant impact has been helping Wales McLelland secure and deliver a steady pipeline of high-quality projects by leaning into thoughtful preconstruction. By championing value engineering, realistic scheduling and clear communication up front, he has helped clients de-risk major investments and turn tentative opportunities into concrete projects. Many of those relationships have become repeat partnerships, with owners coming back specifically because of the experience they had under Darren’s guidance. Colleagues say Darren has a rare ability to connect market intelligence, design decisions and construction execution in one conversation. He can talk pro formas and leasing assumptions with owners, sit down with consultants to refine a site plan, and then work with estimators and supers to make sure what’s on paper can be built efficiently and safely.
