Site Service Awards winners revealed
8 category winners were chosen from nearly 70 finalists.

After months of anticipation and going through hundreds of submissions, the winners of the first ever Site Service Awards have been announced to the entire industry.
The new awards program celebrates the full spectrum of talent that keeps Canada’s construction industry strong. SiteNews’ team explained that every company has that go-to person — the one with the answers, the fixer when things break, or the HR pro who’s built a rock-solid team. The Site Service Awards are about shining a light on those people and their stories — the ones who keep this complex, critical industry running.
“Modern construction is a diverse ecosystem that requires so many different people with specialized skillsets coming together to deliver our built environment,” said SiteNews Editor Russell Hixson. “The result is an eclectic mix. Some are in the boardroom, some are on the jobsite coordinating the work, but the impact they have is the same. That’s why we cast a wide net to highlight the unsung heroes of the industry.”

Here are the winners for each category:
Health & Safety
Steve Howe, Vice President, Health and Safety Emil Anderson Group
Engineering & Design
Joe Di Placito, President, Ram
Marketing & Business Development
Dara Wone, Director of Brand + Culture at ETRO Construction
People & Culture
Marlene Arianna, Senior Vice President, People & Culture at EllisDon
Trades & Field
Patrick Moore, Amor Construction, program manager
Project Operations & Leadership
Rey Galac, Executive Vice President at Bird Infrastructure
Technology & Innovation
Yousif Jabak, Senior IDD Manager Aecon

These individuals were chosen by an expert panel of judges who considered a candidate’s mastery of their role, impact at their organization and comments from peers.
After the winners were announced, SiteNews Co-founder Brett Rutledge revealed that all the competition finalists were featured in the publication’s first ever print product: Faces of Construction.

During the competition, SiteNews reached out to hundreds of colleagues to gather quotes and information about why candidates were so special. It also invited finalists to a studio to shoot for a professional magaizine photo shoot. But the goal isn’t just to highlight these individuals to others in the industry. It’s to inspire others.
“We want these stories in front of the next generation of Canadian workers,” said Rutledge. ” We are proud to announce that we’ve partnered with schools all across the country, to get these into the hands of kids still deciding a career path. We want to show them these amazing stories. We want to show them what’s possible if you show up, rain or shine and dedicate in this industry.”
