Ryan Beedie buys 50% stake in Vistara Capital for $125M

Key Takeaways:

  • Beedie Capital has acquired a 50% ownership stake in private credit and growth equity firm Vistara Growth.
  • It is committing up to US$125 million to anchor Vistara’s new US$500 million flagship fund launching in fall 2026.
  • The new fund aims to address current tech financing dislocations caused by AI disruptions and reduced traditional venture capital availability.
  • Both firms will maintain separate operations while collaborating on North American technology growth investments.

The Whole Story:

Former university classmates and friends, Ryan Beedie and Randy Garg, are deepening the relationship between their respective firms, Beedie Capital and Vistara Growth with a deal worth hundreds of millions.

Beedie Capital and Vistara Growth have entered into a strategic partnership designed to accelerate Vistara’s expansion across North American technology markets. Under the transaction, Beedie Capital has acquired a 50% ownership interest in Vistara Growth. In addition, Beedie Capital will serve as the anchor investor in Vistara’s upcoming flagship vehicle, the Vistara Growth Structured Opportunities Fund, committing up to US$125 million toward its US$500 million target.

The pair met as MBA classmates at the University of British Columbia in 1988 before graduating in 1993. They co-founded Beedie Capital in 2010 to house the firm’s non-real estate technology investments. When Garg spun out to launch Vistara Growth in 2015, Beedie Capital served as a founding limited partner (LP). Across five prior funds, Vistara has raised over US$700 million, specializing in flexible growth debt and hybrid equity for mid- to late-stage technology firms.

Officials say the partnership is responding to ongoing dislocations in technology venture capital and private equity markets.

“With the current market dislocation for technology financing given the uncertainty around the impact of AI and other market forces, we believe this is an ideal time to launch our new flagship evergreen fund in partnership with Beedie,” said Randy Garg.

Ryan Beedie noted that the transaction reinforces long-standing trust in Vistara’s specialized investment platform.

“This investment reflects the confidence we have in Randy and his highly talented team, the track record they’ve delivered, and the market opportunity at hand today,” Beedie said. While the deal deepens capital alignment and operational integration, both firms will continue to operate as distinct corporate entities.
