The Whole Story:
Alberta construction leaders are set to gather at a historic Edmonton venue this spring for an evening of networking, live music and hospitality aimed at bringing together some of the sector’s top decision-makers.

Organizers describe the event as construction’s premier networking gathering, with a program built around “easy conversations and new connections” in a setting that blends heritage, entertainment and business development.
The event will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will feature a curated selection of whiskey, wine and zero-proof cocktails, as well as a live piano performance from Glenn Ackerley.
Attendees will also have access to the historic Blatchford Field Air Hangar, described by organizers as Canada’s first licensed airfield in 1927, along with activities including an indoor golf simulator featuring closest-to-the-pin and putting competitions.
The event will be hosted by John McNicoll, who currently leads industry engagement for the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association in Northern Alberta.
According to organizers, McNicoll brings decades of experience across Western Canada’s construction sector and is known for his relationship-driven approach to building connections across the industry.
“This premier event blends private clubhouse prestige with high-energy, easy networking,” the event website states. “Whether you’re perfecting your swing in the Pro-Shop Challenge, sipping curated wine, whiskey and cocktails, or connecting over live piano, the Industry Icebreaker is where the province’s leaders set the tempo for the year.”
This year’s theme, Cask & Key, is being pitched as a more refined take on industry networking. The event combines live piano music with premium wine and whiskey.
“Some deals are struck in boardrooms. The best ones are composed over a glass of peat and a grand piano,” the event site says.
The 2026 edition follows last year’s sold-out Industry Icebreaker, which brought construction leaders together at the Edmonton Hockey Hall of Fame for a discussion on wellness and peak performance, followed by a VIP Oilers game experience.
The event is presented by SiteNews and ICBA Alberta, with additional support from Cupix and Caliber Projects.
