National business accelerator launches with $1M to support sustainable contech

Key Takeaways:

  • Light House launched Bluprint as Canada’s first national business accelerator focused on sustainable construction to help companies overcome regulatory and commercial barriers.
  • The program targets the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by providing structured pathways for clean-tech founders to validate products and secure pilot projects with major industry partners like Aecon and EllisDon.
  • Backed by over $1 million in federal funding from PacifiCan, the initiative is currently accepting applications for new cohorts scheduled to begin in June and July 2026.

The Whole Story:

Light House announced the launch of Bluprint, marking the debut of Canada’s first national business accelerator dedicated exclusively to sustainable construction. The program expands upon the organization’s previous Circular Construction Accelerator (CCA) to help clean-tech companies navigate the commercial and regulatory barriers of the construction sector.

The initiative arrives as buildings and construction materials account for nearly 30% of Canada’s direct greenhouse gas emissions. While many low-carbon technologies already exist, Light House noted that many solutions remain underutilized without clear pathways to commercialization and deployment. Bluprint is designed to bridge this gap by providing structured pathways for early-stage founders and established businesses to validate their ideas, prepare for investment, and secure pilot projects with industry partners.

The federal government, through PacifiCan, has invested more than $1 million in the foundational work of the program, supporting green building innovation that is now expanding nationally. Light House has already supported more than 24 companies to advance their solutions in the market, drawing on two decades of expertise in regenerative and circular design. Applications for the upcoming cohorts are currently open for intakes starting in June and July 2026.

Strategic implementation of the accelerator’s goals involves a broad network of developers and contractors to facilitate project adoption. Light House has established partnerships with national firms including Aecon, EllisDon, and Scott Construction to pilot sustainable solutions on real-world developments. Other project collaborators include Pinchin Ltd., CBRE, and Formline Architecture, which provide technical and industry expertise to help businesses scale their solutions within the complex construction market.
