The Whole Story:
YHU Infrastructure Partners and MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport plan to officially opened a new terminal on June 15, 2026, introducing commercial air service to the airport for the first time in decades. The 21,000-square-metre facility will host operations for Porter Airlines and Pascan Aviation, with capacity to accommodate additional carriers.
The terminal represents a significant shift in Montreal’s airport infrastructure. Located 15 kilometres from downtown Montreal, MET serves a regional population of more than three million residents across Montreal, Montérégie and the Eastern Townships. The facility features nine boarding bridges, 900 seats in the main lounge and an integrated operating model designed to streamline passenger flow.
“For Greater Montreal passengers, the opening of the terminal at MET will offer more options for travellers and allow airlines to take advantage of greater airport capacity in the metropolitan region,” said Yanic Roy, President and CEO of MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport, in a news release.
YHU Infrastructure Partners, a partnership between Porter Aviation Holdings Inc. and Macquarie Asset Management, designed, built and operates the terminal under a long-term lease. Charles Roberge, President and CEO of YHU Terminal, said the project prioritizes passenger experience. “We are not simply building an airport terminal; we’re redefining the way people travel in Montreal,” he said in the release. “Every detail has been designed to offer passengers a seamless, efficient and human experience that meets the expectations of today’s travellers.”
The terminal’s design incorporates contemporary references to the R-100 airship’s 1930 visit to Saint-Hubert, which drew large crowds. MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport, originally opened in 1927, served as Montreal’s primary airport until commercial flights relocated to Dorval in 1940 to support the war effort.
Accessibility features include a 500-metre drop-off zone with three traffic lanes and the METbus express shuttle connecting the Longueuil-Université-de-Sherbrooke metro station to the terminal. Retail offerings are exclusively Quebec-based, including a Bâton Rouge restaurant, Café Dépôt and a convenience store.
Scott & Associates designed the terminal, with PCL Construction handling construction that began in August 2023. A 2024 Léger survey found 77 per cent of citizens supported the terminal’s development, the company said in a news release.
