Alberta companies merge to form Theoden
Four Edmonton-area companies—Prairie North Construction, BTO Contracting, Eng-Con Holdings, and Ventura Power and Gas—have merged to formTheoden Infrastructure, headed by chief executive Chris Porter and vice-president of growth Scott Hendrickson. The combined entity expands its service geographic reach into Saskatchewan and northeast British Columbia across residential and commercial land development, highway contracts, and oilfield work, while also integrating a specialized drone, robotics, and artificial intelligence division to automate operations.
Enbridge forms joint venture to expand B.C. natural gas pipelines
Calgary-based pipeline operator Enbridge Inc. has formed a joint venture with private equity firm KKR in collaboration with funds managed by Apollo to fund the regulatory-approved Aspen Point (expected in service in 2026) and Sunrise (expected in service in late 2028) expansion programs on its Westcoast natural gas pipeline system. Under the definitive agreement, KKR and Apollo will invest approximately $2.7 billion—including $0.7 billion in cash paid directly to Enbridge at closing—in exchange for an indirect, cumulative 29% interest in the aggregate Westcoast system once Sunrise enters service, with Enbridge retaining majority ownership, operational control, and an option to repurchase the interest between years seven and 14 post-closing. Advised by financial leads Morgan Stanley Canada (for Enbridge), CIBC Capital Markets (for KKR), and Scotiabank (for Apollo), Enbridge will use the proceeds for capital recycling and balance sheet optimization, noting the transaction will not impact its 2026 financial guidance or medium-term outlook.
Beedie buys 50% stake in Vistara Capital
Vancouver billionaire Ryan Beedie has acquired a 50% stake in technology financier Vistara Capital, managed by founder Randy Garg, while also anchoring the firm’s upcoming sixth fund set to launch in fall 2026. Beedie has committed up to $125 million USD toward the new fund’s $500 million USD target (following Vistara’s $321 million USD fifth fund in 2025), marking his second-largest non-real estate investment behind his $190 million investment in Artemis Gold Inc. (now valued at $2.2 billion out of his $4 billion non-real estate portfolio).
TiC Solutions acquires GeoVerra
Edmonton-based land surveying and geomatics provider GeoVerra has been acquired by NYSE-listed technical services provider TiC Solutions, Inc. as part of a broader trio of acquisitions alongside we-do-IT, Inc. and Core Group Limited that collectively generate over $90 million in annual revenue. The transaction establishes a comprehensive Canadian geospatial and inspection platform across the infrastructure, energy, utilities, transportation, and natural resources sectors, with GeoVerra maintaining its existing trade branding, project contacts, and operational management while scaling its land surveying services nationwide.
Siding renovation giant surpasses 100 locations
Ideal Siding, North America’s largest siding renovation franchise, has surpassed 100 locations across the United States and Canada, led by Founder and CEO Alex Filipuk. So far in 2026, the company has awarded 11 territories and opened nine, with recent growth pushed past the century mark by new franchise agreements with James Ayo in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Matthew Hammond in Portland, Oregon. The company attributed its milestone to strong operational, marketing, and training support for owners, and plans continued expansion through a robust development pipeline.
Japanese modular builder sets up shop in Ontario
SEKISUI Canada Modular Solutions (SCMS), a subsidiary of Japan-based SEKISUI Chemical Co., Ltd. led by CEO Masatoshi Kifuji, is investing $15 million to establish its Canadian manufacturing and operational hub in Burlington, Ontario. Facilitated through a collaboration between Invest Ontario (led by CEO Khawar Nasim), Toronto Global (led by CEO Stephen Lund), and the City of Burlington, the facility will produce high-precision steel-frame modular building systems for residential, educational, institutional, and commercial projects across Ontario and broader North American markets.
Binnie acquires Victoria-based Colquitz
Burnaby, B.C.-based civil engineering firm Binnie has acquired Colquitz Engineering Ltd., a Victoria-based consulting engineering firm specializing in water resources, hydrological studies, watershed restoration, and municipal infrastructure. The acquisition expands Binnie’s localized footprint and technical capabilities across Vancouver Island, incorporating Colquitz’s specialized civil infrastructure team into its broader multidisciplinary operations. While specific transaction values and individual financial figures were not publicly disclosed, the deal strengthens Binnie’s regional water and municipal practice areas across British Columbia to support growing public infrastructure and environmental management demand.
Montréal startup Brdg secures $850K in pre-seed funding
Montréal-based proptech startup Brdg, founded in 2024 by Ness Cabessa, Samuel Brand, and Daniel Bensoussan, has closed $850,000 in pre-seed funding via a simple agreement for future equity (SAFE) backed by New York’s Forum Ventures and strategic industry investors. The company, which offers an AI-powered platform to automate document collection, budget validation, and construction draw management for developers, cost consultants, and lenders, launched publicly earlier in the summer of 2026 and currently partners with stakeholders representing over $600 million in active project developments. The startup plans to use the new capital to expand its workforce, add agentic AI capabilities, and establish strategic lending partnerships to scale its construction finance platform across Canada.
Dillon consulting acquires B.C.-based architecture firm
Toronto-based, employee-owned Dillon Consulting has entered into a partnership with North Vancouver-based David Nairne + Associates (DNA), an architectural, engineering, and planning firm. Operating with a team of over 50 employees and a 50-year history across West Coast and Northern Canada, DNA will continue to operate under its existing trade name while driving the western expansion of Dillon Architecture Limited (DAL), complementing Dillon’s previous 2025 partnership with East Coast-based FBM Architecture.
Enbridge to acquire oil business for US$600M
Calgary-based pipeline operator Enbridge has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Salt Creek Midstream’s crude oil gathering business for US$600 million in cash. The deal includes 100% of the Orla and Wink North systems and a 50% interest in the Delaware Crossing (DCX) system—encompassing roughly 500 miles of crude gathering infrastructure, 420,000 barrels per day of throughput capacity, 350,000 barrels of storage capacity, and 320,000 net dedicated acres in the Permian Basin’s Delaware region under long-term agreements averaging 10 years.
SiteDocs acquires SafeTrades
Abbotsford, B.C.-based construction safety software firm SiteDocs Safety has acquired SafeTrades to launch an AI-powered insurance and risk management module that converts daily field safety data into broker-ready risk analytics. The integration uses voice and SMS AI technology to aggregate SiteDocs’ existing inspection and incident records into automated workers’ compensation filings, OSHA 300 logs, and structured renewal kits.
Ballard Power Systems purchases GeoPura
Vancouver-based fuel cell manufacturer Ballard Power Systems, has acquired UK-based hydrogen power solutions provider GeoPura for a total upfront consideration of £275.0 million ($82.5 million in cash, 49,584,212 newly issued common shares, and restricted share units for 1,084,540 additional shares), plus up to £27.5 million in contingent consideration tied to post-closing financial milestones. The acquisition transforms Ballard into an end-to-end Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) provider—combining GeoPura’s off-grid Hydrogen Power Unit (HPU) platform, green hydrogen production, and distribution fleet with Ballard’s fuel cell technology.
Northstar issued patent for asphalt shingle tech
Vancouver-based asphalt shingle recycling firm Northstar Clean Technologies has been issued a new patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its proprietary reprocessing technology, focusing on aggregate recovery and landfill diversion. Marking the company’s fourth overall issued patent and its third core process patent in the United States since receiving its initial US approval in November 2022, the intellectual property protection supports Northstar’s technology to recover asphalt and high-quality aggregate for commercial customers as the company continues to pursue further patent approvals across the US, Canada, and international markets.
ConstructionClock rebrands as Supercrew
Winnipeg-based construction technology firm ConstructionClock, founded by David Peters, has rebranded as Supercrew—an all-in-one crew management platform integrating scheduling, labor tracking, and payroll workflows—while securing $471,352 in new AI-focused funding from Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan) alongside $3.2 million previously raised from M25, Trillick Ventures, and Canadian business leaders. The company, which currently tracks over $1 billion in annual labor costs across more than 3,000 corporate clients and 10,000 active daily job sites, also announced the hiring of former Humi and Employment Hero executive Jordan Kovacs as Head of Operations alongside plans for a new Manitoba headquarters.
