The capital-intensive project stands as a massive economic driver for the province’s construction trades. The pipeline build itself will create roughly 2,000 direct construction jobs on the right-of-way. Furthermore, ATCO projections indicate that the expanded energy capacity will unlock more than $20 billion in downstream private infrastructure investments across the energy, petrochemical, hydrogen, and building materials sectors. These spin-off developments are estimated to support an additional 12,000 downstream construction jobs and 20,000 permanent jobs annually once fully operational, ultimately contributing $3.9 billion every year to Alberta’s GDP.
