- Canpotex has initiated a $500-million capital overhaul at Neptune Bulk Terminals in Vancouver to expand and modernize its potash export infrastructure.
- The terminal upgrades will support long-term export growth for Saskatchewan producers Nutrien and Mosaic, following a 13.5 percent increase in provincial potash export value in 2025.
- The investment aligns with national initiatives to strengthen supply chain infrastructure and increase agricultural exports to overseas markets across the Indo-Pacific and South America.
The Whole Story:
Canpotex, the Saskatoon-based international marketing and export company for Saskatchewan potash producers Mosaic and Nutrien, has officially broken ground on a $500-million infrastructure project at Neptune Bulk Terminals in the Port of Vancouver.
The investment will fund comprehensive upgrades, equipment replacements, and refurbishment work across terminal operations to improve bulk handling capacity, reliability, and throughput efficiency for Canadian potash bound for overseas markets.
The expansion comes as demand for agricultural inputs rises globally, with Saskatchewan reporting $9 billion in potash exports in 2025—a 13.5% increase over 2024 levels. The project directly supports national trade objectives to expand export capacity to non-U.S. markets in the Indo-Pacific, South America, and Europe through Canada’s primary West Coast gateway.
“Saskatchewan potash helps feed a growing world, and this investment in shipping capacity, made possible by Canpotex, will help deliver more of this vital nutrient to the people who need it,” said Premier Scott Moe. “By moving more Saskatchewan potash to international markets, this project will create new opportunities and support good jobs and economic growth in our province as well as across Canada.”
Canpotex President and CEO Gordon McKenzie emphasized the long-term trade connection: “Saskatchewan is where this story starts. Today’s investment at Neptune means we will be able to reliably export Saskatchewan potash through the Port of Vancouver to farmers overseas for decades to come.”
Peter Xotta, President and CEO of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, noted that terminal modernizations at Neptune are instrumental in driving Canada’s broader trade strategy to scale bulk commodity exports to expanding international markets.
