The Whole Story:

Calgary has shortlisted major contractors for five civil-works packages on the Green Line LRT – SE Project, setting up a 2026 procurement run for stations, guideways and river/road crossings on the multi-billion transit build.

The city says moving qualified teams into position now will help partners, subcontractors and jobseekers plan around forthcoming opportunities. Proposals for each package are expected to be solicited in 2026, with work spanning 2026–2031.

The shortlisted proponents, in alphabetical order by package, are:

  • Shepard to Bow (six at-grade stations): Aecon; EllisDon; Graham.
  • Bow River (bridges over Ogden Road, the Bow River and Deerfoot Trail): Aecon; Flatiron Dragados; PCL.
  • Highfield Station: EllisDon; Flatiron Dragados; Graham; PCL.
  • Elevated stations (Ramsay/Inglewood and 26 Avenue S.E.): EllisDon; Graham; PCL.
  • Ramsay elevated guideway: Aecon; Flatiron Dragados; Graham.

Green Line is Calgary’s largest infrastructure project and the first CTrain line designed for low-floor trains. The SE Project now under way will add a high-capacity rapid-transit spine through industrial and inner-southeast communities and anchor redevelopment around new stations. Construction of the SE segment began in 2025 and is slated to take roughly six years.

Phase 1 of Green Line is being delivered in segments, with the SE Segment running about 16 kilometres from Shepard north to the Event Centre/Grand Central area and including 10 stations, six LRT bridges and a maintenance and storage facility. The City of Calgary, the Province of Alberta and the Government of Canada are funding the program with roughly equal contributions. The city marked the official groundbreaking for Phase 1 in June 2025. Substantial completion of Phase 1 is currently targeted for 2031, according to public project materials.

Design work shows portions of the inner southeast will be elevated, including the Ramsay/Inglewood and 26 Avenue S.E. stations, and an elevated 11/12 Street S.E. guideway tying them together. Bridge works on the Bow River package include crossings of Ogden Road, the Bow River and Deerfoot Trail.

The city is also advancing planning for the Downtown Segment along 10 Avenue and 2 Street S.W. to validate costs and integrate designs before construction begins there.

Green Line officials plan to take the five SE civil-works packages to market in 2026. Firms on the shortlist will be invited to submit detailed proposals, while the city says today’s notice is meant to signal opportunity for local subcontractors, suppliers and workers ahead of full procurement.
